Aspen Batch Distillation
(formerly Aspen BatchSep™)
Conceptual design, analysis, and optimization of batch distillation processes
Aspen Batch Distillation is a comprehensive simulation tool for conceptual design, analysis, and optimization of batch distillation processes in chemicals, specialty chemicals, pharmaceuticals, food and beverage, and other industries. Aspen Batch Distillation is a core element of AspenTech’s aspenONE™ Process Engineering applications.
Features
- Fitting reaction models. A new, easy-to-use, workflow-oriented capability (Aspen Reaction Modeler) for chemists and engineers to identify reaction kinetics from experimental data. It has a proven and robust numerical engine, with rigorous best-in-class physical properties. Multiple proposed reaction models can be evaluated to identify the best model. Comprehensive kinetics include Powerlaw and Langmuir-Hinshelwood reactions, reversible reactions, and mass transfer effects. Perform parameter fitting, store and compare results for various cases to identify the best fit.
- Intuitive interface designed specifically for simulating batch distillation.
- Interoperability of Aspen Batch Distillation models inside the industry-leading Aspen Plus process simulation environment.
- Optional custom modeling using Aspen Custom Modeler, enabling modification or extension of standard Aspen Batch Distillation models.
- Best-in-class physical properties methods and data. Aspen Plus includes extensive databases of pure component and phase equilibrium data for chemicals including electrolytes and complex intermediates. Ongoing collaboration with the US National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) ensures easy access to the best available experimental data and methods.
- Optimization tool enabling rigorous identification of optimum operating steps to minimize cycle time while maintaining operating and performance constraints.
- Equation-oriented architecture allowing timely and robust dynamic simulation of complex columns.
- Rigorous equipment modeling including flexible, configurable controller models, pressure-drop correlations, multiphase, azeotropic, and reactive distillation, and options to start from dry or total reflux conditions.
Aspen Batch Distillation enables batch process engineers to:
- Design batch separation strategies for new products
- Minimize cycle time to increase capacity
- Predict and optimize batch cut times and pressures levels to increase product yield and purity
- Examine batch process controllability and operability to ensure safe operation
- Study startup and shutdown procedures, including empty startup
- Minimize energy consumption
- Perform environmental compliance studies and calculate emissions
Options
- Aspen Plus: Aspen Batch Distillation models can be imported into Aspen Plus to simulate the batch distillation in context of the overall chemical process.
- Aspen Simulation Workbook™: Enables easy development of Microsoft® Excel-based user interfaces to Aspen Batch Distillation, allowing broad deployment to casual users.
